A Netcup alternative with an API and no 12-month term

Netcup is the value king of German hosting. Its G12 vServers ship DDR5 ECC memory, generous NVMe disks and a traffic flatrate at prices that look like typos - the VPS 1000 G12 gives you 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB NVMe for €10.37 a month including German VAT. For a set-and-forget server, that is extremely hard to argue with.

The catch is the model: those prices assume a 12-month commitment, the location is fixed once provisioned, and there is no infrastructure API to speak of - Netcup is classic hosting, not a cloud. Unio Cloud targets the same budget with the opposite model: hourly billing capped at a monthly price, resize anytime, and a full OpenStack API.

Netcup prices from netcup.com as of July 2026, shown incl. 19% German VAT on their storefront; the excl.-VAT figure is derived (÷1.19). Netcup wins on raw disk per euro - if you need 256 GB, say so honestly.

Why teams look for a Netcup alternative

The good price requires a 12-month commitment

Netcup's headline prices apply on annual terms. The no-commitment hourly option for the same VPS works out roughly 40% more expensive per month. Unio's price is the price: billed hourly, capped at the monthly figure, delete whenever you want and stop paying.

There is no API

Netcup servers are managed through a web panel. There is no provisioning API, no Terraform provider, no way to script a staging environment into existence at 2 a.m. and destroy it at 6. If your workflow is infrastructure-as-code, Netcup simply is not built for it - Unio gives every account standard OpenStack plus S3.

Elasticity is not part of the model

The location is fixed after setup and changing size means a plan upgrade, not an API call. That is fine for one steady server, but painful the moment your infrastructure needs to breathe - burst for a launch, shrink after, spin up per-branch environments.
